The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has designated 2026 as the International Year of Women Farmers. This decision highlights the essential role that women play in food production, the sustainability of rural communities, and the future of the global agricultural sector.

Women in the Pork Industry: Impressive Statistics

According to data from INTERPORC, the pork industry in Spain generates nearly 65,000 direct jobs held by women, representing 42% of all jobs in the sector. Of these:

  • 31,460 women work in primary production (48.4% of the total in this sector)

  • 30,940 women are employed in the manufacturing industry

  • 2,600 women work in cooperatives or inclusive businesses

These figures take on particular significance when we consider that pig farming is present in 39% of Spanish municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants, playing a decisive role in keeping people in rural areas and maintaining essential services in these towns.

At Magapor, equal opportunity is a reality. Our veterinary technical department is made up entirely of women. These veterinarians specialize in swine reproduction and work directly in the field, helping our clients improve their productivity and contributing to the sector’s development and modernization.

This reflects our commitment to talent in rural areas, where the presence of qualified professionals helps retain the population, create quality jobs, and boost the economies of municipalities that would otherwise lose their productive and social fabric.

In this International Year of Woman Farmer, we want to recognize the work of all the women who are part of the swine sector: farmers, veterinarians, researchers, technicians, sales representatives, managers… and especially our own technical team.

Thank you to all the women whose hard work brings healthy, safe, and high-quality food to our tables. And a special thank you to our technical team: you are the best example of how women’s talent is transforming the industry.
